Original Vintage 1960s Ercol Model 469 Bureau / Serving Cabinet

This is such a classic piece of Ercol furniture that continues to stand the test of time. Originally designed in the 1960s and superbly crafted in solid English elm, this bureau /serving cabinet (what Ercol officially called it – designed to stow your crockery and condiments and be set by the dining table) is in cracking original condition. And it can effectively function as a drinks cabinet too. It features a ‘fall’ pull-down door which reveals a sectioned, upper cupboard and the door creates a desk for working or mixing drinks. Below is a spacious two-door cabinet with an adjustable shelf, and generous, lower single drawer underneath. This multi-functional, versatile piece of furniture provides a lot of storage space and its clever, classic design means it’s not overtly a drinks cabinet or bureau – it could be used in any room from kitchen to sitting room or study. This particular piece dates from the 1960s.

Description

This original, used piece is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in good – very good, vintage condition. We have cleaned the cabinet, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces but otherwise left the original finish alone as it’s in such great order. It features Ercol’s signature visible dovetail joints on its corners and the doors and fall are fitted with full length hinges. All handles are in good order and securely attached. The top cupboard interior is sectioned with an adjustable left hand shelf but sadly the right hand shelf is missing. The lower two-door cupboard has a single adjustable shelf. There is a full width drawer at the bottom which slides with ease and it sits on the original shepherd castors to give good mobility. All interiors are in very good, clean order, with just minor signs of use. Likewise, the exterior wood is in good order too, with just light marks here and there in line with its age and purpose. It has sustained some superficial scuffs on the right hand side which we’ve shown in our photos. The blue Ercol label is in place and it dates from the 1960s. Please do browse our photos for an accurate sense of its colour, grain and condition. If you have questions or would like to see this piece, just get in touch.
