Original Norwegian Midcentury 1970s Leather Chair by Ingmar Relling for Westnofa

Loungy, laidback and comfortable accurately describe this 1970’s Norwegian bentwood chair, designed by Ingmar Relling for Westnofa and something of a classic midcentury design. It’s made for indulgent relaxing with its supportive contours, soft arms, perfect tilt along with its soft and supple black leather cushion. We love the design of the floating ‘sling’ arms and we love the shape of this piece in profile with its open cantilever frame. These chairs offer an excellent alternative to more traditional lounge chairs as the proportions are compact and slim without compromising on comfort.

Description

This is an original, vintage chair that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have cleaned the leather, applying a nourishing, natural leather balm. The wooden frame has also been cleaned and a beeswax polish applied. The single leather cushion (it’s a sectioned two-part cushion) is in good – very good order with a working zip, plump inners and secure buttons. There are surface wrinkles, creases and some light fading but nothing to call out – this aging is very much part of vintage leather’s charm. The floating leather arms are a little sunlight faded but are otherwise in very good condition. The canvas and cord that straps the canvas to the frame is in very good order too. The light bentwood frame is in good order, with only minor knocks and scuffs but nothing specific to call out. The chair is solid and sturdy with no wobbles.  The Westnofa label can be found underneath the seat. It comes with provenance and a good pedigree.
