Norwegian 1970s Westnofa Tall Black Leather Beech ‘Siesta’ Chair by Ingmar Relling

This chair is one classy number. Smart and stylish, it hails from Norway and dates to the 1970 (also the original design dates from the 1960s, this is a later model), made by Westnofa and designed by the renowned, Ingmar Relling. A tall version of his acclaimed, iconic ‘Siesta’ chair that won his design recognition and cemented his reputation as a leading MCM designer. Even the White House, back in the day, was furnished with Ingmar Relling’s Siestas! Its floating, curvaceous form combines striking good looks with super comfort, its tilt and suspension providing great support. We love the inky black leather of this one and the detail of the cord running through the frame and seat canvas. These chairs offer an excellent alternative to bulkier, more traditional lounge chairs as the  proportions are compact and slim without compromising on comfort.

Description

This is an original, vintage chair that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. The chair has been thoroughly cleaned and the leather nourished. It’s soft and supple with no areas of concern. There are some wrinkles and minor marks on the leather but these are minimal and what you would expect from vintage leather. The finishing canvas under the leather cushions is in fantastic condition, securely moored into position with cord that runs through the chair’s frame and through the cushions to keep them in place. The light bentwood frame is structurally sound and sturdy with no wobbles or joint concerns. Again, there are some very minor scuffs and scratches in line with its age. Overall this chair is in cracking condition. The Westnofa maker’s label is sadly no longer affixed but this is a well-documented design that we attribute it with confidence.
