Original Early 1960s Wrighton Slimline Vintage Desk / Dressing Table
Formerly a dressing table which would have had a mirror attached, without it these pieces work really well as compact desks suitable for home-working with a laptop. The shallow depth means it won’t intrude into the room too much and yet its width means it doesn’t compromise on workspace. With four spacious drawers too, it offers a great deal as a home work station. Although no maker’s label in place now, we can attribute it to Wrighton, a British maker, and this particular model with its signature design details is a rare find, dating from the early 1960s. It’s superior quality with some beautifully executed and highly original features, like the inset round handles and the octagonal legs set at the very corners. You can of course continue to use as a dressing table too with a freestanding mirror atop.
This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out, and the top surface has been restored – carefully sanded, oiled and polished. This partial restoration aims to bring vintage pieces back to life without removing every last mark and dent – we never want to be too invasive when we restore because often this strips away the charm and narrative. The other exterior wood has had a natural beeswax polish applied. The four drawers slide with ease, are constructed with dovetail joints and have clean and tidy interiors. There are minor knocks and scuffs here and there including a chip on one of the back legs – do browse our photos. It’s a very well-made piece that we believe dates from the early 1960s. It’s stable and solid, well-made and with no signs of repair. Sadly the maker’s stamp has rubbed away but the signature design of the handles and legs attribute this to British maker, Wrighton. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of its condition.
