Midcentury 1960s G Plan ‘Brandon’ Teak Glazed Bookcase

Lots of midcentury, glass front book shelves pass through our doors, their appeal enduring, but this one, designed by VB Wilkins for E Gomme, is a cut above in our view. Designed as part of his 1950’s Brandon range which continued production into the late sixties, unusually this is crafted in teak rather than the pale oak more commonly seen on Brandon pieces. This piece is in solid, vintage order order. Its the angles and the thoughtful craftsmanship that elevates it. We love how the angled sides and front that pour down from the top and the cut-away at the base.

Description

This original, vintage bookcase is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the bookcase inside and out, and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. The two glass doors slide with ease in their runners and are in very good order. The interior is clean and tidy with light signs of use. There two adjustable shelves inside in good order too. There are some minor scuffs, blemishes and dents to the external finish which can be seen across our photos. We would class this wear as minor and in line with the considerable age of the piece.  It’s very well-made, and sturdy with no signs of structural repair or areas of concern. Sadly there is no maker’s label in place but we attribute it with confidence as it’s a well-documented G Plan piece. Do browse our photos for an accurate sense of its condition. Any questions, do get in touch. Happy to help.
