Midcentury 1960s Double ‘Cantata’ Chest of Drawers by Ron Carter for Stag

British furniture maker, Stag, made great quality, Scandinavian-influenced, domestic furniture throughout the sixties and seventies, firstly under the design tutelage of John and Sylvia Reid, and later, Ronald Carter, who was the design brains behind the Cantata range. Launched in 1966, the Cantata concept was to keep the design minimalist and modern and the scale economical and compact but to maximise storage and functionality within. And this double bank set of drawers demonstrates that wonderfully, providing masses of storage space across its drawers of differing sizes. Expertly made with the signature, sculpted wooden handles, constructed to last a lifetime and beyond, it comes in fantastic, original condition.

Description

This is an original, vintage chest of drawers that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall good – very good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned it thoroughly, inside and out, and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces but have otherwise left the original finish alone as it’s in such great order. All eight drawers slide with ease, are beautifully made with dovetail joins and have clean, tidy interiors. All handles are securely attached. There are just light signs of wear and tear on the external surfaces. Minor knocks, blemishes and scuffs – do browse our photos for an accurate sense of this. It’s very well-made as we would expect of Stag with no wobbles, repairs or areas of concern. The original Stag label is in the top left drawer and the piece dates from the late 1960s. if you have any questions or if you’d like to visit and view, plase get in touch.
