Description
This dining room set of four original, vintage chairs and dining table is ‘sold as seen’ and is comprised of three regular dining chairs, one carver chair and an extending dining table. The table is in good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned this piece and the main table top has been restored so a partial refurbishment. This involved chemically stripping the original finish (rather than sanding which can cause veneer damage) on the table top, followed by oil and wax for a durable, consistent finish. The two leaves, table border / base and legs have been cleaned and buffed with a natural beeswax polish but otherwise the finish is original here. The two drop leaves are accessed at either end of the table. The main table top is lifted slightly and the extensions can be gently pulled out from underneath. You have the option to use one or both. The leaves are in very good order, moving freely and with ease. As is often the case, the leaves are darker than the main table top and this is quite simply because they have not been exposed to sunlight and used as much as the main surface. There are minor scuffs, blemishes and knocks here and there which is shown across our photos. The chairs are in very good, used condition. They have been checked, cleaned and a neutral beeswax polish applied to their wood but otherwise the finish is original. The finish across the chair frames does carry very minor, superficial scuffs and marks here and there but nothing to call out. This wear and tear is light. Do browse our photos for an accurate sense of this. The seat pads have been professionally reupholstered in recent years. The patterned fabric is of a premium quality and although there is a little sunlight fading, it is in great order overall with no marks or areas of concern. The pads are simply screwed into place under the seat so recovering to your taste would be easy and inexpensive. Note that one of the wingnuts underneath is missing as shown but as there are three more, there is no movement and the pad remains securely in place. The chairs are solid and sturdy with no wobbles. Sadly the maker’s label is no longer in longer place on any of the pieces but they are very well-documented design so we attribute it with confidence to A Younger.
