Elegant Midcentury Danish Rosewood Cabinet by HP Hansen
A stunning, Danish midcentury two door cabinet / small sideboard, attributed to HP Hansen and dating from the 1970s. Clean-lined and simple, it’s designed to let the rosewood take centre-stage. The rich, darkly toned patina of the wood is beautiful from all sides. The proportions of this cabinet make it a really versatile piece of furniture. Not as large as a regular midcentury sideboard but bigger than a standard cabinet, this could be used for a multitude of storage options in a home from family space to dining room to home office and lounge.
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have cleaned the unit inside and out, and applied a light natural beeswax polish but otherwise left the original finish alone as it’s in good order. The two cabinet doors slide with ease in their runners and the unit is clean and tidy inside. The cabinet is divided in two and each side has a height-adjustable shelf inside. The interiors are very clean and tidy. There are two repairs to call out on the door fronts. The left door has a fix at the top and the right door has had the handle repaired – at some point the length of the handle has been knocked and it’s been glued back into position. We’ve shown both of these repairs in our photos. They are stable and solid, with no movement and no signs of weakness. We do not believe them to be problematic in terms of function and in the context of the overall piece, they are discreet but they are nonetheless there. This is reflected in our price. If you have concerns about these areas, please get in touch as we’d be happy to share a video with you. Sometimes this show imperfections better than static photos and provide reassurance. There are minor superficial scratches and scuffs here and there to the exterior wood on the sides and top surface but this is light and in line with its age and they are only apparent when the light hits glossy finish – please see our photo. It’s well-made, a solid and stable piece. The original HP Hansen maker’s label can be seen on the back of the piece.
