Classic Midcentury 1960s Round Teak Coffee Table with Glass Top

The archetypal MCM lounge coffee table, this piece has had us scratching our heads a little. With such a distinctive midcentury design, we thought we’d be able to identify the maker but it eludes us. The thick, round glass table top floats on the four teak wooden arms. Underneath there is a shelf for your magazines or art books. The grain patination here creates a radiating sunburst cut with quartered sections of angled stripes. It’s really unusual and very handsome. A statement low table designed to wow in the centre of the room. And of course the clever thing about a glass table top is that it makes a substantial, heavyweight piece appear light, open and transparent.

Description

This original, vintage table is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good – very good, used condition. The wooden table frame has been cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied but otherwise the finish is original. The thick glass table top simply floats on the four uprights. There are some minor knocks and scuffs to the wooden frame and the lower shelf is a little sunlight faded but this doesn’t impact its appeal in our view. The wear and tear is light. It’s well-made, sturdy and solid (and the glass makes it a heavy piece) with no signs of repair. Do browse through our photos for an accurate sense of its super condition. Sadly we’ve not been able to attribute it. There’s a good chance it’s Danish as it’s most similar to Scandinavian designs and it undoubtedly hails from the sixties / early seventies.
