Antique Georgian Chest of Drawers with Fine Marquetry Detail

This Georgian drawer chest that dates from the 18th century may come bruised and scarred but it’s still so very handsome. With the most exquisite marquetry detail across the drawer fronts and top, there are intricate inland borders and corner sunbursts that will have no doubt taken a painstaking amount of time and expertise to set in place. For all the delicate craftsmanship, this is a solid mahogany piece so heavy and substantial, most likely why it has stood the time of time. There are two over three graduated drawers with black swan neck pull handles giving loads of useful storage. It sits on chunky bracket feet. Do browse our photos to get an accurate sense of the wear and tear. We feel given the significant age of this piece we can readily forgive the cosmetic knocks. In our view they form a big part of its history, character and appeal.

Description

This original, used chest of drawers is ‘sold as seen’. It is in fair – good, antique condition, structurally sound but with cosmetic wear and tear. We’ve cleaned this piece and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood, but otherwise the highly lacquered finish is original. The drawers slide with ease and all handles are securely affixed. The interior wood of the drawers is clean but rather rustic in places. We would recommend adding liners. The exterior wood is marked, chipped and bruised, as you can clearly see from our photos. This wear is very much in line with its age. Still, it’s a well-made piece of classic British antique furniture in solid wood. If you’ve questions or would like to view the item, do get in touch.
