Antique Early Victorian Mahogany Chest of Drawers
We’re always charmed by old-fashioned and more traditional pieces of furniture like this. These are the homes’ quiet, reliable workhorses, serving our needs with no fuss and frivolity, and they slot effortlessly into a room, ready for service. This early Victorian mahogany chest of drawers offers loads of practical storage with three large drawers and handsome brass plate handles. It’s an every-day, rustic piece with life’s knocks and scars on all sides, but nonetheless a solidly made item of furniture that you don’t need to feel precious about it.
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in fair – good, used condition. We have cleaned the interior and exterior wood, applying a natural beeswax polish but have otherwise left the original varnish finish alone. The three large drawers slide with ease and the internal wood is clean and tidy. The six brass plate handles are present, secure and in good order. There exterior wood carries scuffs, knocks and marks on all sides which we have shown across our photos. We completed a repair to the right hand front leg and we have treated some historic woodworm holes noted on the underside as a precautionary measure. This is a rustic piece that carries the scars of its life on its surfaces but it’s also a handsome, practical piece of furniture which much to offer. It’s solidly made and stable. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but it’s British in origin.
