Pair of Very Rare Ercol Model 559A Ladder-back Chairs

It’s always a thrill when we stumble across something super rare. And this Ercol Model 559A chair pair is just that. Made very briefly from 1968-1970, they feature a wide, oyster-shaped seat and a low, four bar ladder back. Later these evolved into a tall, ladder-back model with a smaller seat. Made in Ercol’s favoured solid beech and legs, we’ve cleaned these chairs but left their original finish alone. It felt important to preserve them as they are but you could of course restore. If you Google these chairs, chances are you won’t find them. They’re that obscure but they are the real deal. We turned to our Ercol identification bible to confirm their ID and details – we’re included photos of this. They were intended as dining chairs but we wouldn’t hide these under a table. They are quiet statement chairs that deserve to be shown off and adored. Whether you’re an Ercol fanatic, a rare chair collector or just someone who appreciates beautiful, vintage design, these are a worthwhile investment in our view.
