An extraordinary pair of chairs, made in the 1960s, designed by Robert Heal for Staples Ladderax to accompany their signature shelving systems, mirroring the ladder rungs with the chair backs. Made in black enameled steel and with natural tan leather seat pads, they make a statement. The leather seats wrap around the frame and are held in place with cord strapping underneath, a really unusual design feature. There are marks, bruises, chips and scuffs, both to the frames and to the leather seats but these only add to their considerable appeal in our view. They come with such heritage and to try and disguise this patina would deplete their character. Collectors’ pieces and a rare treat to have in our company for a short time.
