Antique Early 20th Century Three Tier Stacking Barrister’s Bookcase by Lebus

These rather grand, traditional sectional bookcases are increasingly sought-after, coveted by bibliophiles or those with treasures to display safely behind glass doors. Originally made for barristers, legal institutions and private libraries, they are cleverly crafted to be freestanding with shelves that simply stack on top of each other. No tools or fixings required. Each section comes with a lift-up glazed door that slides back on itself, resting above so you can access the books below. This three tier bookcase was made by fine British maker, Lebus, who started manufacturing such pieces in the late 19th / early 20th century so it comes with considerable age and character. It comes a little bruised and knocked here and there but nothing that compromises its appeal. It’s all part of its vintage charm. We love the additional open display shelf on top.
