Vintage Traditional Oak Desk with Drawers

With home working the new norm for many, demand for good quality desks has risen enormously. This no-nonsense, British-made desk, dating from the 1960s, made in dark oak with generous proportions and plentiful storage with two drawers, has considerable old-fashioned character and appeal. It may lack the clean lines and design finesse of its Scandinavian counterparts, but it’s superbly made with function the top priority. And it looks great partnered with a more contemporary chair. A smart, utilitarian piece of vintage furniture with much to offer.

Description

This vintage desk is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have lightly cleaned the piece applying a natural beeswax polish but nothing further, preferring to leave the old marks and scuffs in place as part of its history. The two drawers (the lower drawer gives the illusion of two but is in fact double height) slide with ease, as does the pull-out writing panel, and they are in good order inside with some marks and minor stains. There were some signs of historical woodworm here and there. This was old but as a precautionary measure we’ve treated it and filled any holes so this is now barely noticeable. As you can see from our photos, there are minor marks, knocks and scratches to the exterior wood but this is as you would expect from a vintage, ‘working’ piece. The desktop itself is remarkably clear and clean of scuffs and ink stains. It’s well made with dovetail joints, a solid, sturdy construction and no signs of any repair. There is sadly no maker’s mark but we believe it to be of British origin and made in the 1960s.
