Vintage Traditional Dark Oak Desk with Drawers
This no-nonsense, British-made desk, most likely dating from the 1940s – 1950s, has considerable old-fashioned character and appeal. Made in dark oak and with two generous drawers, it’s not too big and not too small. It may lack the clean lines and design finesse of its Scandinavian counterparts, but it’s superbly made with function the top priority. And it looks great partnered with a more contemporary chair. A smart, utilitarian piece of vintage furniture with much to offer. With home working the norm now for many, demand for good quality desks has risen enormously and although this comes with knocks and scuffs, it’s an authentic, vintage piece, ready to provide service.
This is an original, vintage desk that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in good, used condition. We have cleaned it and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood but nothing more. The two drawers have solid brass handles and locks, and they all slide with ease. Sadly we do not have the key for the locks. The interior wood carries some marks and stains but these are minor and rather what you might expect from a desk (ink marks, etc). Please refer to our photos. There are dents, scratches and scuffs to the exterior wood as you would anticipate with a vintage piece of this age. This is primarily to the varnish finish – again, take a look at our photos to get an accurate sense of this. We feel that this wear and aging adds to the desk’s authentic vintage appeal. It’s a really well-made, practical piece of storage furniture that’s solidly constructed with no signs of repair. Sadly there is no maker’s mark.
