Vintage Norwegian 1970s Rykken Tall Bentwood Chair
An immaculate, vintage, Norwegian bentwood lounge chair in deep chocolate brown leather, that we believe to be designed by Elsa & Nordahl Solheim for Rybo Rykken & Co. Dating from the 1970s, this unusual design playfully balances curves and angles to create a flowing, organic form. It’s a chair that’s striking from all sides with its distinctive silhouette. With its tall back, its soft, supple upholstery and a frame design that has added suspension, it offers much comfort for every day lounging. In fact you won’t believe how comfortable it is!
Description
This is an original, used piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in excellent, vintage condition and has been well taken care of. We have lightly cleaned and polished the wood with a natural beeswax polish. Likewise, the joined cushions have been cleaned. The original leather upholstery is in very good order with plump inner foams, working zips and no specific marks. Vintage leather does wrinkle and show areas of wear, particularly at rub points, such as the seat seams, but this is very much the nature of the material and as we would expect. The finishing canvas and strapping underneath the main cushions are also in excellent order. The dark wood frame shows only the lightest signs of use with some very minor scuffs here and there. Sadly there is no longer a maker’s label attached but this design is well documented (indeed, we’ve sold many over the years) and we believe it to have been designed by Elsa and Nordahl Solheim for Rykken, Norway. Please refer to our photos for an accurate sense of its immaculate condition.
