Vintage Midcentury 1960s Austinsuite Slim Teak Sideboard
Made in the mid-late 1960s and designed by Frank Guille for British furniture maker, Austinsuite, this is a particularly elegant sideboard with slimline proportions and a clean, refined design. Originally a dressing table, it sits on long, tapered legs with castors, there are six teak drawers, providing practical storage space for whichever room this piece is placed in. Its lean and simple style (it was formally a dressing table) mean it’s a more versatile item of furniture than perhaps a more conventional sideboards that’s ‘heavier’ and more substantial by design, demanding space. This could, for example, be used in the living room with the TV on top. It’s beautifully crafted in teak veneer that’s richly toned and in fantastic condition, but it’s the contrasting stripe of rosewood across the drawer fronts which serve as hidden handles that elevate this sideboard and add a note of distinction.
