Vintage Midcentury 1950’s Glazed Bookcase
We frequently come across mid-century glazed bookcases but this particular one, dating from the fifties, is a cut above the rest. It has the most unusual design that looks rather Deco-influenced with details like rounded, slightly protruding edges on either side down the front and the dramatic angled profile. It’s in great condition with only a few small superficial marks to suggest its age and former use. It’s clearly been loved and taken care of. The honey-toned wood is stunning across its external surfaces and it comes with a height-adjustable glass shelf in the top section. Below, the sliding wooden cabinet doors reveal a large, open space so it’s as practical as it is handsome, offering lots of storage, top and bottom. A fine quality, beautifully crafted vintage piece.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have cleaned this piece thoroughly and applied a beeswax polish. It is solidly made and sturdy with no wobbles. The glass doors are in very good order and slide in their runners with ease, as do the sliding lower cupboard doors. The interior wood is clean and in superb order with only very minor superficial marks from use. Likewise, the exterior wood is in very good overall order with only minor marks and scuffs. There is a faint circular mark on the top of the book case that can be seen in the images. Please see our photo of this. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but the design and construction leads us to believe it dates from the late 1950s and its origins are British.
