Vintage Ercol Windsor Model 835 Tall Arm Chair
Never going out of fashion, Ercol’s lounge sofas and chairs are design classics. This model 835 is a particularly handsome model. With a contoured, tall back with multiple spindles, and the signature up-turned arms, this chair looks great from all angles. And the comfort it provides is outstanding. The back cushion is shaped and curved, providing superb support all the way up the spine. The light blond wood frame is of course the standout feature here. It’s in fantastic condition. The original fabric might not suit but the cushions are in such excellent order, they could be easily and cost-effectively recovered by an upholsterer.
Description
This is an original, vintage chair that are ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good, used condition. The frame itself is in very good-excellent order. We’ve lightly cleaned the wood with a natural beeswax polish but have otherwise left the original finish well alone. The original webbing is in good order. Usually this is the first thing to give on these chairs (although it should be noted it can be easily replaced with modern webbing by an upholsterer) but there is has a lot of life left in it before it would need replacing. The shaped cushions are in very good order too. There are some light marks and signs of use on the fabric (see our photos) but it’s clean, there are no stains and there is no odour. The key thing to note with these shaped ‘official Ercol’ cushions is that the excellent condition to recovering. Ercol cushions made from new can be expensive but these can be reused and simply recovered if this particular fabric doesn’t suit. The wooden chair frame is superbly crafted in solid and there are no wobbles, joint concerns or signs of repair. There are a few minor scuffs and marks to the finish, primarily on the arm ends (see our photos) as you would expect with used, vintage chair. The original Ercol sticker is no longer affixed but this is a well-documented Ercol Windsor chair. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of condition.
