Vintage Ercol Model 472 Chairmaker’s Chair #2

A fantastic example of Ercol’s flagship ‘Chairmaker’s 472 armchair, designed by Lucian Ercolani in 1962 to showcase the skill and craftmanship of the Ercol factory. This chair ticks all the Ercol signature boxes – bentwood back, spindles galore, tapered legs, up-turned arms, etc. The model features a double-bow seat back with a central slat and eight turned spindles, with slim, upward-pointing arms. The chair is constructed with a solid English elm seat and beech legs, back and spindles. An elegant piece of British design that does not compromise on comfort and durability. This particular chair model is still made today, a true testament to its enduring, timeless appeal.

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good-to-excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned and polished the wooden frame with a natural wax polish. There are some minor signs of wear and tear, as you would expect with a vintage piece like this. This can be seen on the arm ends and at the back of the chair where it’s picked up some rub marks. This wear is superficial and we don’t feel it detracts from the appeal of the piece in any way.  The frame is structurally sound, stable and sturdy with no signs of repair. It’s superbly constructed, characteristic of Ercol furniture. Refer to our photos to get a good since of the  super condition of the piece and the colour. The original Ercol gold sticker is affixed to the back of the chair, dating it 1980s. There is a shaped Ercol seat pad that accompanies this chair – there are poppers that fix it in place on the bottom. The fabric features a floral design and is a little faded although otherwise in good order.
