Vintage Ercol Model 472 Chairmaker’s Chair #1
A fantastic example of Ercol’s flagship ‘Chairmaker’s armchair, designed by Lucian Ercolani in 1962 to showcase the skill and craftmanship of the Ercol factory. This chair ticks all the Ercol signature boxes! The model features a double-bow seat back with a central slat and eight turned spindles. Upward turned armrests supported by three spindles. The chair is constructed from solid English elm and beech. An elegant piece of British design that does not compromise on comfort and durability. This design is still made today and we believe this particular chair dates from 1980s / 1990s, such is its flawless condition.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in immaculate, used condition. We have lightly cleaned and polished the wooden frame with a natural wax polish but have otherwise left well alone as it’s almost flawless. The frame is structurally sound, stable and sturdy with no signs of repair. It’s superbly constructed, characteristic of Ercol’s furniture. Refer to our photos to get a good since of the outstanding condition of the piece and the colour. The original Ercol inset label is affixed to the back of the chair. This chair design is still made by Ercol today and given its condition we suspect this dates from the 1980s-1990s. There is a shaped Ercol seat pad that accompanies this chair – there are poppers that fix it in place on the bottom. The fabric features a floral design and is a little faded although otherwise in good order.
