Vintage Ercol Model 459 Windsor Coffee Table

An instantly recognisable piece of British midcentury design from Lucian Ercolani, this Windsor ‘plank’ coffee table is in great original condition, ready to add instant kudos to any modern interior. It has a blond, English elm top with a beautiful, richly marked grain, along with beech legs and base, and a slatted magazine shelf underneath for your periodicals, newspapers and books. We love the softly tapered edges of the table top. Set in front of the family couch, place it by a favourite lounge chair or let it take centre stage in the middle of your living room, wherever this piece goes it’s practical and unobtrusive. A classic piece of furniture that will never go out of fashion.

Description

This is an original, vintage table that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to restore its shine but otherwise the finish is all original. The table is in overall good – very good order, however two of the lower magazine rack spindles are a little bent, as shown in our photos. There are no splits or cracks in them, they have simply bent out of position / shape, probably because something weighty has been left on them unmoved for a long time. We made the call not to try and replace them with new because in the wider context of the table they are not particularly noticeable. Furthermore, if you plan to add magazine or books to the lower rack they won’t show. This wear is reflected in our price. Otherwise, there are just light marks and knocks here and there as you would expect with a vintage piece of this age but nothing to call out. It is solid and sturdy with no wobbles or signs of repair.  The blue Ercol sticker is in place and the table dates from the 1960s. Do browse our photos for a good sense of its tone and order.
