Vintage Ercol Model 396 Windsor Oval Breakfast Table with Magazine Rack
It’s always a delight when we acquire a design classic that we’ve not had before – the Ercol breakfast table is just that. A rare find, this neat, oval table made with Ercol’s favoured elm and beech is in excellent order. It’s been carefully restored to revive that glorious wood grain on the solid elm table top and to give a durable, hardy finish. With compact proportions but designed to be sat around and eaten at, it would suit a kitchen or smaller dining space. There is a slated magazine rack underneath, perfect for stowing magazines but perhaps more practically, dinner mats, the table cloth and napkins. Ercol furniture is synonymous with good design, quality materials and craftsmanship, and is built for longevity. They are timeless classics and their appeal endures.
Description
This original, vintage table is ‘sold as seen’. It is in excellent, used condition. The solid elm table top and beech legs have been thoroughly cleaned and then carefully restored – a slow process that involves gentle sanding back the original finish before coats of satin Osmo oil are applied. It’s then been polished to give a hard-wearing, durable finish. The legs have had a wax polish applied. This table dates from the 1960s and will comfortably sit four people. There are very minor, superficial surface marks including a small dimple on the top surface. We’ve tried to show this in a photo but as you can see it’s not really visible! If you run your hand over the table you can feel the slight variation here. The table is sturdy and solid with no signs of repair. The original Ercol sticker is very faintly still there! Please refer to our photos for a good sense of the condition of this piece.
