Vintage Ercol ‘Grandfather’ Rocking Chair in Original Dark Wood Finish
The ultimate, indulgent rocking chair, Ercol’s ‘Grandfather’ rocker is a design classic, dating from the 1960s. With a large back, low seat and wide arms, it’s generous, over-sized proportions will provide gentle, enveloping relaxation. As you would expect, it’s an expertly constructed piece, made with traditional craftsmanship and with many of Ercol’s signature features from the exaggerated beech bentwood back, to the striking spindles to the gently curved arms to the comfort and functionality. A must for every Ercol fanatic wanting to expand their collection and as is the way with timeless design, it would look at home in a mixed-style interior, from midcentury influenced to traditional country cottage.
Description
This is an original, vintage rocking chair that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good – excellent, used condition. The chair has been thoroughly cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied. There are minor surface marks to the wood as you would expect with vintage chair of this nature but these add to its rich patina and character in our view. We shown some fading at one of the arm ends and there is a small mark shown on one of the back spindles. As you can appreciate from our photos, the wear and tear is very minimal. The chair has the original cushion clasps in place under the seat, should you choose to add Ercol cushions at some point. As you would expect from Ercol, it’s superbly constructed in solid elm and beech, with no signs of repairs or areas of concern. Sadly the blue Ercol sticker is no longer affixed but this is undoubtedly Ercol and a very well-documented piece. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the condition of these chairs.
