Vintage Danish Midcentury Solid Oak Desk / Table
Originally a busy desk used in Denmark’s local municipal buildings from the 1950’s onwards, this is a really versatile table that would work just as well in the kitchen or dining room. It’s got rugged good looks and carries some scuffs and marks from its former working life, but actually is in very good condition for its years with a honey-toned patina on its top surface. It’s solid oak and really expertly constructed with a long drawer for extra storage. The tapered legs in particular are beautifully turned with a gently squared off top where the corners meet.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good condition. The desk has been thoroughly cleaned and polished. The drawer moves with ease and is a particularly long drawer too. There are some marks and scuffs to the wood, including a chip at the top of the drawer but this is in line with its age and the nature of its use. It’s clearly been worked at a lot and that’s part of why we love it! The handle is brass and moves freely. Sadly we do not have the drawer key. We can see no signs of repair nor have we undertaken any repairs ourselves. Although imported directly from Denmark and believed to be salvaged from local authority premises being decommissioned, there is no original maker’s mark. The desk is solid and well-constructed in solid oak.
