Vintage Danish Lystolet Brown Leather & Rosewood Swivel Chair
Made by Lystolet, Denmark, in the 1970’s, this smart swivel chair combines comfort, sharp good looks and retro fun. With richly toned, flowing rosewood arms and patchwork, buttoned brown leather upholstery, it’s a masculine piece that reminds us of Mad Men or perhaps a Bond movie. This is a chair that works on its own in an office, snug or quiet spot in the home. Equally though, its neutral colour and unfussy design means it can sit comfortably alongside other seating.
This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in fair-good, used condition. We have cleaned the chair and the leather has been nourished. The wood-effect swivel base moves freely and with ease. As was often the way with vintage bucket chairs, some elements are leather-look vinyl. It’s actually very hard to tell, so close is the match to the leather, but our experience tells that the fixed upholstery on the back of the frame is leather-effect. The cushion and the arm rests are genuine leather. There are some specific areas of wear to flag with this piece. The cushion (it’s a single, contoured leather cushion) is in good order, both on top and underneath. However, when we were cleaning it we noticed a small area where the stitching is a little loose on one of the patchwork seams. We’ve shown it in a photo but as you can see it’s not particularly visible. You may wish to repair this either with leather adhesive or with some stitches. Underneath the cushion, the finishing fabric has been torn, most likely in transit from Denmark which is disappointing. This doesn’t affect the use of the chair and cannot be seen but again, you may wish to repair this – we’ve shown this in a photo. The torn finishing fabric does reveal the original Lystolet maker’s sticker underneath. This wear has been reflected in the price. Please refer to our photos for accurate sense of condition.
