Vintage 1970s Teak Glazed Bookcase by Herbert Gibbs

An unfussy, utilitarian vintage bookcase by British maker, Herbert Gibbs, that dates from the early 1970s. Split into two sections, each with its own pair of sliding glass doors and an adjustable shelf inside, it lends itself to be configured to your needs, perhaps with books in one section and treasures in the other. The generous width but shallow depth make this a small footprint storage option where you don’t want shelves that intrude into the room too much. It could be put to great use in a child or students’ bedroom, or indeed a hallway or landing. Simply designed but very well-made. We have a matching pair of these bookcases available individually and as a set at a discounted price

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in very good, used condition. The piece has been checked and cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the exterior wood surfaces to revive its shine but otherwise the finish is original.  The bookcase is divided into an upper and lower section, each with two sliding glass doors so four doors in total. All doors are original and in very good order, sliding with ease in the runners. Each section has a height-adjustable shelf and all interiors are clean and in good order with just minor signs of use. There are light signs of wear and tear to the exterior wood, just the odd superficial mark and scuff in line with what we might expect to see on a vintage item. It’s well made with no signs of repair or areas of concern. The Herbert Gibbs label is in place on the back along with the original retailer label which dates it to 1971.
