Vintage 1970’s British-made Solid Wood Large Desk
With home-working all the rage, the demand of solid, functional desks has grown and vintage ones are a much more sustainable option than cheap, flatpack options. For a start their construction is usually far superior and this grand office desk is a testament to that. It’s a big piece so would dominate a home office but it comes with a huge amount of storage with five spacious drawers and a large surface area for your PC, printer, important paperwork and a photo of the dog. It hails from a closed commercial premises and dates from the late 1970’s. The wood patina across the drawer fronts is particularly eye-catching.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good-very good condition. We have thoroughly cleaned and polished this desk. It’s very well-made in solid wood and it’s a heavy, substantial piece with generous proportions. As you can see, there is sun fading to the top surface (we suspect it was positioned by a window) along with some light, superficial scratches here and there, but actually otherwise the top is in good shape. Usually busy, working desk are heavily stained and scuffed. There are five drawers in total, including a large filing drawer and there are also two pull-out trays. There is a little damage to the recessed pull handles to two of the right hand drawers – please refer to our photos. They are not particularly noticeable at all. The two drawers on the right have locks and a key is supplied. Sadly the original maker’s label is no longer affixed but we believe it’s likely to have been made by Pedley Furniture Ltd as it was acquired with a chair that does have that maker’s mark and it also hails from a commercial premises.
