Vintage 1960s McIntosh Extending Dining Table & Set of Five Matching Chairs
A refined midcentury dining set from AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy, made in the 1960s and mixing Scandinavian design influence with more traditional British style sensibilities. It comprises of an extending teak dining table and five dining chairs, one of which is a carver. Each piece has been taken great care of as the condition is super, especially considering its years and regular use. McIntosh furniture is synonymous with superior craftsmanship and you can see that here in the patented, extending mechanism in the table through to the wonderful curves on the back legs of the chairs. Acquired from the people who originally purchased this dining set in Scotland back in the 1960s., it’s always rather special when something comes our way that’s stayed with a family for generations.
This authentic, vintage dining set is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in very good, used condition. The table has been cleaned, lighted sanded and refinished with wax polish. The extending mechanism, which sits hidden underneath the centre of the table when not in use, is in excellent order and moves with ease, folding out. There are some areas of minor damage in a couple of places to the table’s edges – this is shown in our photos and they are not particularly noticeable. The legs and surfaces are overall in very good condition. It is expertly crafted, solid and sturdy. There are five accompanying McIntosh chairs – four regular dining chairs and one carver with arms. They have the original, black vinyl upholstery on them which is in excellent condition. The chairs have been cleaned and a light beeswax polish applied. All the chairs are in very good order including the original black vinyl seat upholstery.
