Vintage 1960s Light Oak School Glazed Bookcase

Here’s a British, vintage, school bookcase, deserving of a more tranquil retirement in a domestic setting. An old-fashioned charmer with a unfussy, utility look, it’s made in solid light oak so not a ‘heavy-set’ piece. It can rub up against furniture of different styles with ease. There are three shelves for protecting and showing off your favourite books or use to display treasures behind its sliding glass doors. Or, as it’s split into two sections, you can use it for a bit of both perhaps. Robustly made, we love the raised border around the top, giving you a further shelf.

Description

This original, vintage bookcase is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the piece inside and out, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces but otherwise the original finish has been left alone. The bookcase is split horizontally into two sections. Both sections are glazed with sliding doors in good working order, moving easily in their runners. The lower section features an adjustable shelf. The bookcase interior and shelves are clean and tidy with just light signs of wear and tear. Similarly, there are some signs of use on the exterior wood surfaces – superficial scuffs and blemishes here and there, primarily on the top, as shown but overall minor. Please refer to our photos for an accurate sense of this piece’s great order. It’s well made with no signs of repair or areas of concern. Sadly there is no maker’s label but it’s an ex-school / educational institution piece. If you’ve any queries, please do get in touch.
