Vintage 1960s Lebus Light Oak Chest of Drawers

Another piece of solidly made, smart British midcentury furniture, this time from Lebus. This good looking chest of drawers is ideal for a busy bedroom where you don’t want to be too precious about the furniture in it. It comes with some minor knocks and marks but it’s robust and sturdy, offering lots of practical storage across four drawers. There are some thoughtful design details here too, like the dark wood stripe across the middle, the slightly overhanging top and the tapered legs.  A super vintage piece in light oak that dates from the 1960s.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. It has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out, and a natural wax polish applied to the external wood. All four drawers slide with ease, feature dovetail joints and have clean, tidy interiors. There are some minor marks and knocks to the exterior wood surfaces. Please refer to our photos – we have shown a chip to the veneer on a drawer front and on the right hand side panel there are some scratches where it’s rubbed against something. Overall though, this kind of wear and tear is in line with what we might expect to see on a vintage piece that’s 50 – 60 years old and it’s relatively minor. The metal handles are something of a mystery. They are the original handles seen on many Lebus pieces but we would speculate that another handle type has been put in place at some point as there is recessed marks visible behind the handles. This can be seen in our photos too and overall it’s not particularly noticeable, plus the main thing is the original handles have been screwed back in place. The Lebus maker’s mark can be seen inside the top drawer.
