Vintage 1960s Jentique Neat Teak Sideboard
British midcentury furniture maker, Jentique, made some fantastic practical pieces for the home throughout the 60s and 70s. Whilst function may have taken priority over form, its designs are still well-balanced and considered, and the pieces are superbly made, standing the test of time. This particular sideboard is a cracking item of vintage furniture. It has retro good looks but does not look dated. With neater proportions than a conventional vintage sideboard, it’s ideal for a room where space is limited. It will sit quietly and compactly against a wall but offers loads of storage with two generous cupboards and three drawers. And we love Jentique’s signature integral handles with their elongated form.
Description
This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned this sideboard, fully restoring the top surface by carefully sanding it back and then building up the surface, using a hard-wearing wax oil and final polish to give a beautiful, durable finish. The interior wood is clean and tidy with some minor marks through use. The two cupboards feature fixed shelves and the top drawers is sectioned and green baize lined, originally intended for cutlery. All drawers slide with ease and are well-made with dovetail joints. The cabinet doors move with ease and the closures are in good order. There are some scuffs and marks on the exterior wood but this is minor and in line with the piece’s age and function. It’s a very well made piece with no visible repairs or construction concerns. Sadly the Jentique label is no longer affixed but we can identify it as this brand from the handles and build – it’s a well-documented design.
