Vintage 1960s Danish Svend Skipper Tall Black Leather Armchair
Svend Skipper’s classic sofa and chair designs are instantly recognisable with his signature sloped arm-ends, stitch detail and button configuration. This is a particularly fine example of his 1960’s tall armchair, upholstered in a soft black leather with tapered, solid teak legs and in fantastic condition. An iconic design that’s stood the test of time and is becoming harder and harder to find, especially one so well taken care of.
Description
This original piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good-excellent, used condition. The leather upholstery has been cleaned and a nourishing leather balm applied, as has the frame with a natural beeswax polish applied. The original black leather upholstery is in very good order on the three cushions. The zips are in good, working orders, all buttons secure and they have plump cushion inners. The head rest cushion secures in place with integrated poppers. The fixed leather on the chair frame is also in very good order. There is some surface wrinkling and minor fading on the arm tops and ends as you would expect in these areas. There is also a small fray to the leather on the outside arm end (please see our photo). This has most likely been caused by a knock but it’s minor, barely noticeable and not likely to deteriorate further. The finishing fabric underneath the cushions is in good order. As you can see there is some fading and some small holes, but again, these aren’t visible or likely to get worse. It’s age-related wear. The chair is superbly constructed, solid and sturdy with no wobbles or creaks. There is no maker’s mark on the frame anymore but this is a well-documented piece so we state with confidence it’s a Svend Skippers Mobler piece. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the great condition of this item.
