Vintage 1960s Austinsuite Teak Sideboard

Another more handsome compact sideboard, with neater, leaner proportions than many of the large conventional vintage sideboards that can be cumbersome in a regular modern home. It has a lightness and elegance to its slimline form but at the same time offers lots of useful storage with six generous drawers. Made by Austinsuite in the 1960s, possibly designed by Frank Guille, there are some really nice design details from the inset, discreet handles to the long, tapered legs. We like too the mix of curves with sharp lines. This is a really well-made, high quality piece from a renowned British furniture maker.

Description

This is an original, vintage sideboard that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in very good, used condition. The sideboard has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out. The top has been carefully restored which involved gentle sanding back the original finish and then coats of satin Osmo oil applied. It’s then been polished to give a hard-wearing, durable finish. All six drawers are made with dovetail joints, the interior wood is in good, clean order and they all slide with ease. There are some very minor scratches and scuffs to the exterior wood including on the legs, as you would anticipate with a vintage piece of this age. On the top surface there is some light sun fading along the front edge. It’s not particularly noticeable – please refer to our photos. It’s a really well-made, practical piece of storage furniture that’s solidly constructed with no signs of repair. The gold Austinsuite stamp can be seen inside the top drawer and it dates from the 1960s.
