Vintage 1950s Herkel Walnut Veneer Cocktail Bar Drinks Cabinet
Every house should have a home bar! And this grand one in beautiful, burled walnut with filigree brass handles is the life and soul of the party. With neat proportions, its design is tidy and thoughtful. Pull down the drop-leaf door and with a smooth hinged movement, and the top goes up too to reveal a mirrored area for mixing your cocktails. This area illuminates with an integral light (it’s been fully rewired and PAT tested), there are shelves either side for your drink-making accoutrements and all six original reusable cocktail sticks are still in place awaiting an olive or cherry. The lower cabinet features a shelf which can be removed and this is where your bottles and glasses can be stowed. Attributed to Herkel and originally sold from a shop in Norwich, it has bags of history and vintage style. Perfect for your Christmas socialising!
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have cleaned and lightly polished it with a natural beeswax polish but have otherwise left the original finish well alone. The drop-down top door moves with ease and there is a clever, hinged mechanism that opened the top of the cabinet too, revealing the drink-making area. There is an integral light that’s been rewired with new, black braided flex and it’s been PAT tested. The mirrored glass panels inside are in excellent order and the interior wood is very clean and tidy. The six original cocktail sticks are in place. The two lower cabinet doors are in good order and move with ease. There is a key and this section can be locked. There is an internal shelf that can be removed but it’s not height adjustable. The interior here is also clean and in good order. The walnut veneer across the cabinet front and sides is stunning and in very good order. It is a little chipped and marked on the top surface – see our photos – but we won’t feel this impact the appeal of the piece particularly. It’s a very handsome piece that’s lots of fun! Made by Herkel (the maker’s label is on the back) and sold originally at Trevor, Page & Co. Ltd of Norwich, it dates to the 1950s.
