Vintage 1950s French Walnut Extending Dining Table

A fantastic family dining table with considerable vintage charm, room for growth with an extending central section, and the most beautiful French walnut grain across its top. Sitting on long tapered, shapely legs, its design is elegant and refined for a table that’s robust, heavy and sturdy – we loved the gently curved sides. Yes, it comes with some signs of wear and tear but overall these are minor imperfections that don’t compromise its function or handsome design greatly.

Description

This original, vintage table is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have cleaned the table and applied a natural wax polish to the legs and a light beeswax polish to the table top. The central extension section is housed discreetly underneath the closed table top, sitting on felt-lined joists. To extend the table to its maximum width, the two halves are pulled apart and the extension central gently withdrawn from its storage at either end. It’s then slotted into place with the two sides pushed back in to secure in position. The table sections slide with ease and the extension section is in excellent order. As you can appreciate from our photos, the original factory finish on the walnut veneer table top is a heavy, shiny lacquer. There are scuffs and chips to this here and there across the two sides, and on the table top edges too. Viewed overall, this isn’t particularly noticeable and this wear certainly didn’t require an invasive restoration as we would deem it to be minor. The table’s very well made, solid and stable with no signs of repair. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but it was acquired with a 1950s sideboard in the same French walnut finish so we believe it to be of the same period. Please do browse our photos for an accurate sense of its good order.
