Unique British-made Vintage Bespoke 1960s Solid Oak Desk
This is such a special, little wooden desk. We know it was a one-off, bespoke piece made in the early 1960s by a Northampton furniture maker, perhaps called Cobbs? We were lucky enough to acquire this finely crafted desk from the family who originally commissioned it. It’s such a pretty and refined writing desk, with neat proportions and elegant features from the small brass handles to the gentle tapered legs to the stunning patina on the desk top. It’s a truly unique piece, very much of its midcentury time, but very much with a place in the modern home too. It has a lot to offer. For anyone newly home-working who requires a compact desk with storage, this is the piece for you.
Description
This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in very good-excellent, used condition. We have lightly cleaned it and applied a natural beeswax polish. The drawers are made with dovetail joints and all slide with ease. All handles are in good order and solidly attached. The interior wood is generally clean and tidy but there are a couple of minor stains inside. The external wood on the drawer fronts carry some minor scuffs and knocks as do the legs but these are in line with its age and nothing more than you might expect with a vintage piece. The desk top is in fantastic order with the most beautiful grain patination. Please refer to our photos for an accurate sense of the desk’s great condition.
