Two Door Rosewood Cabinet By Omann Jun, Model No. 4
A stunning, Danish midcentury two door cabinet / sideboard, attributed to Omann Jun. Designed by Gunni Omann for Omann Jun, this style is model no.4 and it’s a solid rosewood, rosewood veneer and mahogany construction. Clean-lined and made with exquisite attention to detail, it was designed to let the wood take centre-stage. The rich, darkly toned patina of the wood is beautiful on all sides.
The base plinth has been fitted at a later date but it doesn’t jar or detract from the piece. Indeed, it’s been well-done so that it doesn’t look remiss.
Looking at the cabinet, inside the left door there are two green felt-lined drawers with dovetail construction. Inside the right door there is one adjustable shelf and the original maker’s label is still affixed inside.
This cabinet has no flaws other than light signs of use as you would expect with an original pieces of this age. These are primarily on the top but are barely visible.
The proportions of this cabinet make it a really versatile piece of furniture. Not as large as a sideboard but bigger than a standard cabinet, this could be used for a multitude of storage options in a home from kitchen and family room to home office and lounge.
Also on the top you will notice the subtle divide between the solid rosewood and mahogany. This isn’t a repair but part of how the piece was made. Often another layer was added on top of this base, hence the rosewood being used as the front only as the back would’ve been hidden.
