Stunning Vintage 1950’s Hand-painted ‘James & Son’ Pharmacy Cabinet

It would take a hard-hearted person to not fall in love with this amazing piece of history. This is a rare find. You may occasionally come across vintage pharmacy cabinets but to find such a handsome, elaborately decorated one sets this apart from anything else we’ve seen. Indeed, we’ve never seen anything quite like this. The sliding glass doors have been hand-painted for James & Son in pale and dark green. Do browse through out photos and have a read – it’s utterly charming. It comes in three tiered sectioned and offers much unusual storage for the kitchen, bathroom or in fact any room where it can be displayed and admired.

This is an original piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good vintage condition. The cabinet itself is British-made by Minty Ltd in dark oak and was originally made for libraries with its glass-fronted sliding doors and tiered sections, designed for books of different sizes. Somewhere back in time, James & Son, acquired the bookcase, saw it as an excellent display cabinet for their pharmacy and commissioned a sign-writer to paint the front. The hand-rendered painting is just exquisite. The cabinet does carry knocks and scratches on its wooden surfaces, particularly its sides but this was a ‘working’ item of furniture and is in line with its age and use. The sliding glass doors are in excellent condition and move with ease as are the runs they slot into. This item can be dismantled into three sections.
