Small Vintage British-made Oak Bureau
We’ve rather fallen in love with this bruised, old bureau. We like to think that once it was the hub of activity with lots filed in it and with someone working away at the pull-down desk. These days it probably deserves a gentle retirement but it’s a grand-looking storage piece with neat proportions for a small room perhaps. We think this would work well in a child’s bedroom or family space where you might need to stow away papers, pens and craft items. It does come marked and a little battered in places but we feel it’s very much part of its vintage charm. It’s a working piece with life still in it.
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in fair, used condition. We have cleaned and polished this piece. Please refer to our photos for a sense of its condition. It’s well-worn and shows the marks of use on all sides and and internally. There varnish has worn away at on the top and there are a number of faded water marks and scuffs. The drop down door is knocked along it’s top edge and although we have the key the lock is rather hit and miss. This isn’t too much of a problem as it’s stays in position when shut. The same key can be used on the lower doors. As you can see the plyboard back has been chipped at the bottom corners but this isn’t visible when set back against a wall. Structurally the piece is solid and sturdy. All doors open with ease and align, and the pigeon holes in the top section are intact. This is well-used piece with knocks and scuffs, reflected in our price, but it has considerable character.
