Set of Four 1970’s Danish Industrial Stacking Chairs

If you’re a fan of mix and match interiors with a soft spot for industrial design, the set of four midcentury Danish stacking chairs will appeal. They are in good order, ideal as family dining chairs, as occasional chairs for extra guests, or even as patio chairs in the summer for al fresco evenings. Designed as practical, ‘work-horse’ furniture, their design is utilitarian with a shaped, coated metal frame in deep brown and contoured ply wood seat and back rest, but we like their silhouette very much and we like too that they are full size chairs – often stacking chairs are smaller. There are scuffs, chips and marks to both the plywood and legs, but this is part of the chairs’ history and add to their appeal. We love their industrial, lived-in charm and of course they can be stacked away when done with.

Description

This original, vintage set of four chairs is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, they are in good, used condition. The chairs have been lightly cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied to the plywood seat and backs. The original finish on the coated metal chair frames is carries some minor marks and scuffs. All of the chairs have plastic feet caps in place. The contoured ply on the back rests and seats carries marks, minor chips and wear from use but this is in line with their function and age. We have tried to show the condition in our photos so do browse. Although their finish is rather rustic, aside from our cleaning, we have kept it as, is as in our view, this industrial, lived-in look is what appeals. All four chairs are solidly made, sturdy and robust with no repairs or wobbles. There are rubber pieces underneath the chairs to stop them rubbing when stacked. A few of these have perished and are no longer there but it doesn’t affect that ability to stack. Sadly there is no maker’s mark on the base of the seats but these were imported directly from Denmark.
