Painted Edwardian Solid Oak Kitchen Dining Table
With rustic looks and a robust, solid frame, this antique kitchen dining table is a fantastic, good value piece for a home wanting to conjure up cosy, country cottage feels. In its original form this was an Edwardian, solid oak table, most likely with a dark varnish finish. In recent years, someone (not us, we should add) has transformed it with a white wash of matt paint to the legs, drawer fronts and frame, and a sanded back, distressed table top. Vintage brass handles have been added to complete the look and actually it’s been done really well. We’re a little reluctant to use the ‘shabby chic’ phrase as so often it’s rather twee and poorly executed, but here the distressed, working farmhouse kitchen table look is very effective. Those two deep drawers are very useful too. And of course underneath the paint are good ‘bones’ with much left to offer. Partner this table with mix and match dining chairs for a modern take on the country living look.

This original, vintage table is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have given the table a wash down, inside and out, but we wanted to leave the restored, distressed paint finish intact. This was originally an early 20th century, oak kitchen table, given a rustic makeover with matt white-washed / limed effect legs, frame and drawer fronts and a sanded, distressed table top. It’s been done well overall. There are superficial dents and scuffs to the finish from use but essentially there is a really good quality frame here that’s been given a modern twist. The old-fashioned brass handles, not original to the piece but nonetheless good quality, help complete the vintage, country cottage look. The table is sturdy and solid with no signs of repair. The two drawers, which are surprisingly deep, are in good, clean order inside. There is no maker’s mark but it’s British and Edwardian in origin.
