Restored Original Midcentury Ercol Model 492 Drop Leaf ‘Square’ Table

An iconic piece of British mid-century design from Lucian Ercolani in flawless, fully restored condition. Made for a short time between 1964-1970, this is a rarer Ercol model that looks like a square when extended but it’s actually not quite. It’s made in Ercol’s characteristic beautiful blonde wood with an elm top and beech splayed legs. These Ercol tables are characterised by their softly tapered, elm wood table top that gently slopes off. There is no hard edge or angle at the sides. This juxtaposed with the sharply angled beech legs, is a playful piece of design of ‘soft and hard’ that works beautifully together. And of course the patina of the elm is simply stunning. A timeless design that never goes out of fashion, an Ercol piece of furniture is for life and this particular, almost square when extended table design is one of our absolute favourites.
