Rare Vintage Ercol Windsor Plate Rack / Wall-mounted Shelf

Most Ercol plate racks are country kitchen-style ones with open backs – these solid backed in the popular Windsor style are a rarer find. Offering two slimline, sectioned shelves, it’s actually a three shelf unit as you can also use the top of the rack. There are grooves for plates to rest but of course you can use it for anything and in any room, not just the kitchen. These shallow units work particularly well in bathrooms for example. As you would expect from Ercol, it’s a smaller but beautifully formed piece of furniture, complete with brackets to screw into place. Made in solid British elm.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. Although we have cleaned the rack and applied a natural polish, there are some knocks, marks and paint speckles across it. There are also a cluster of historic woodworm holes notes on one side. Although old, as a precautionary measure, we treated and filled these holes. This wear and tear is reflected in our price. Our photos show in on a table top but it is of course designed to be wall-mounted and there are two plate brackets attached for this. The shelves and top feature grooves for the base of the plate to sit securely in if you did plan to use it as originally intended, as a plate rack. It does work as shallow shelves for other items too. It’s structurally sound and stable with no repairs. The original Ercol sticker is still affixed.
