1970’s Pedleys of Saffron Walden Midcentury Teak & Leather Office Chair

This is a particularly handsome and particularly comfortable office chair, dating from the 1970’s and made by Pedley’s Furniture, a renowned British manufacturer from Saffron Walden. They started production in the early fifties and their specialism was high-end, fine quality furniture and fittings for commercial premises like top hotels, prestigious offices and even boats. Sadly, they ceased trading in 2011 but in their hey day, they enjoyed an excellent global reputation for their superior craftsmanship. This single, solid teak chair is really elegant with a gently contoured seat, curved back rest and those flowing, rounded joins on the front legs.

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in excellent condition. We have thoroughly cleaned this chair, and both the wood and the leather have been polished / nourished. It’s superbly made with no signs of repair or wobbles. There is a little wear to the seat top as you might expect, in particular a small, slightly puckered patch  but this is barely noticeable – please refer to our photo. We believe the black upholstery to be leather, not Rexine but it’s a little tricky to tell as we cannot check the edges underneath. Either way, it’s in excellent condition given its years and use. The original maker’s label stating Pedley’s Furniture, Saffron Walden is affixed on the underside of the seat along with a model stamp. Please refer to our photos for an accurate sense of the excellent condition of this piece.
