Pair of Original Midcentury G Plan E Gomme Dining Chairs by VB Wilkins
It’s not often we acquire such an outstanding pair of these particular dining chairs in such fantastic, original condition. This pair of E Gomme, 1960s, dining chairs were designed by Victor B Wilkins for G Plan as part of its ever-popular Fresco range. His designs show a strong Scandinavian influence and these chairs are made in solid teak. This particular design is a rarer find, pre-dating the more common Fresco dining chair with the round seat and curved back pad. They have a parred-pack elegance to them with subtle curves and beautiful lines from all angles. These have been recovered in a pale green velvet at some point (the fabric stickers are still on the bases). The fabric’s actually in great shape with no marks or threadbare patches, just a little faded with age. Should you wish to recover the seat pads, it’s an easy job as they just drop in. And just very light wear and tear to the wooden frames, a testament to their superior quality.
Description
This original, vintage pair of dining chairs is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, they are in very good – excellent, used condition. The solid teak chairs frames have been thoroughly cleaned, checked and polished. They are in very good order overall. There are very minor, superficial scuffs here and there on the frames, as you might expect with furniture of this age. The velvet green upholstery is in very good order too, with no pulls, marks or areas of wear. They have plenty to offer as they are but should you wish to recover them at some point, it’s an easy job for the professional upholsterer or the hobbyist as they are just drop-in seats. Both chairs are solid and stable with no areas of concern. As you can appreciate from our photos, these chairs are superbly crafted. Sadly the gold E Gomme stamp has been removed when they were recovered but this is a well-documents G Plan model. Please do browse our photos for a good sense of their colour and condition.
