Original Vintage Teak Veneer Long Sideboard
We love the low and lean profile of this stylish, clean-lined midcentury sideboard. Its unfussy design will sit happily alongside more traditional furniture of other periods and styles. Sideboards offer much practical storage space for modern homes with busy families and much to stow away. The spacious ‘open’ cupboard of this particular piece means loads can be packed away inside, unencumbered by shelves. Its slightly lower height and shallow depth mean that although long and substantial, it won’t intrude into a space and dominate. A quietly handsome, large piece from the early 1970s that will slot effortlessly into today’s homes.
Description
This is an original piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good, used condition. We have cleaned the sideboard and applied wax polish. The two left-hand drawers slide with ease. There is a large, double-doored central storage area and a single door to the right but once the doors are opened, it’s one large, long continuous cupboard internally with no divider and no shelves (note: these aren’t missing – it didn’t ever have shelves). All three cupboard doors open with ease and the closures are in good order. The interior wood is clean and tidy, with only minor scuffs and dents. Likewise, so is the exterior wood with the exception of a small faded area on the top surface which we have shown in our photos. Apart from this there are light, superficial scratches in line with its age and use but nothing to call out. At some point the original base plinth had been rather carelessly removed and replaced with ill-though through thin legs which is how we acquired it. We’ve removed these and replaced them with a much better leg style, in keeping with the design of the piece and providing significant stability. It’s strong and sturdy. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but we believe it to be British-made around the early 1970s. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the overall superb condition.
