Original Vintage Ercol Windsor Plank Dining Table
Ercol furniture is synonymous with good design, quality materials and craftsmanship, and is built for longevity. They are timeless classics and this particular design is one of the more sought-after of all their dining tables, especially this model which is the larger version at over 1.5m in length. It’s characterised by its softly tapered, solid elm wood table top that gently slopes off at the edges. This particular vintage Ercol plank table from the iconic Windsor range comes with some wear-related issues which are described in detail on our condition report and shown in our photos so do read on. We have completed restoration work to the table top which has improved it greatly but these repairs are reflected in our price. If you are after a classic midcentury table but one you don’t have to feel too precious about then this might be a great option for you.
Description
This original, vintage table is ‘sold as seen’. It is in fair – good, used condition. The solid elm table top and beech legs have been thoroughly cleaned. The table top has been gently sanded back to carefully remove what was the scratched and stained original finish. Coats of satin Osmo oil applied have been applied and a final wax polish. Despite this, there are some areas to call out on the table top. There was a large stain, most likely ink, and whilst the restoration has removed almost all of it, there are still some faint lines where the stain bled into the grain. In addition to this, there is a wider area that is a touch lighter than the rest of the table top. We suspect this is where someone else tried to remove the stain perhaps with a wood bleach and it’s left a faint mark. We have shown this in our photos. It’s quite subtle and not hugely noticeable but it is nonetheless there and we would never seek to mislead. Underneath the table, a repair has been made to a split in the upper wooden frame. Again, this is shown in our photos. We didn’t do this repair ourselves but we have assessed it carefully, concluding that it’s well done, solid and stable. It’s unlikely to cause any future problems and because it’s concealed under the table it’s not noticeable at all. The table is structurally sound, solid and has no wobbles but it does comes with these two issues which sets this piece apart from our other Ercol tables. We have reflected these aspects in our price. The original Ercol sticker is no longer affixed.
