Original Vintage Ercol Child’s ‘Dot’ Stacking Chair
Originally designed for use as a child’s school chair, Ercol’s stacking chair range came in different sizes, denoted by a coloured dot at the back – yellow, red, green and blue. This size is the yellow dot design and it’s super sweet. It’s as solid and sturdy as it ever was, and is in exceptional condition given its years – the dot stacking chair range dates from 1963. It can of course be used as a child’s chair still but it’s actually just a fine-looking, eye-catching object. We would use this as a small side table by our favourite seat, a stand for beside the bath in a country cottage for or a space to display a dramatic houseplant perhaps. It’s a beautiful vintage thing with considerable charm.
This is an original, used piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in near immaculate condition. We have lightly cleaned and polished the chair with beeswax. An old half penny dated 1931 has been glued into position where the colour dot would have been. We’ve left this is place because we rather like it and it adds to the story of this little chair. Sadly the original Ercol maker’s sticker is no longer affixed as is often the way but this is a well-documented, attributed design. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the overall superb condition.
